Connie Evans pleaded guilty to capital murder in the 1981 murder of a grocery store clerk. He was sentenced to death.

Evans and his legal team appealed the sentencing in 1982 and were denied. They then filed for error coram nobis relief in 1983. They were denied this as well. Finally, in 1986, they sought federal habeas corpus relief and were again denied.
