On July 17, 2001, Derrick Demond Walker murdered Charles Richardson at Richardson’s home. After Walker was charged the court granted Walker’s motions for examination and investigative funds. The results of these examinations found that Walker was not “under  the  influence  of  any extreme mental or emotional disturbance” at the time he committed the crimes. On June 5, 2003, Walker was convicted of capital murder and arson and was sentenced to death.
