Brief Case History
Edwin Turner was found guilty of two counts of capital murder and sentenced to death on February 14th, 1997. His execution date was set for the following month.
Post-conviction and sentencing, Turner and his legal team made many appeals. One for a retrial, one consisting of thirteen assignments of error they alleged occurred during Turner’s legal proceedings, one seeking post-conviction relief, one petition for a writ of certiorari in a capital case, and one habeas petition. All were denied. Several of these appeals noted that Turner suffered from mental illness and had been hospitalized not long before committing the murders for which he was tried.
