Brief Case History

On April 11th, 2002, Jan Michael Brawner was convicted of four counts of capital murder - one for each of the individuals he admitted to murdering. Brawner gave a statement admitting to these murders while he was being held in jail. Brawner and his legal team attempted to suppress the statement during his trial but were unsuccessful.

After being convicted, Brawner sought post-conviction relief because of eight alleged errors the Circuit Court made. The Supreme Court of Mississippi denied his appeal. Brawner then filed another appeal asking the Supreme Court to review “claims of ineffective assistance of counsel and the discriminatory striking of a juror.” He was, again, denied.
