Justin Underwood was indicted for capital murder in 1994. Underwood was charged with the murder of Virginia Ann Harris by shooting her with a pistol during a kidnapping on February 15, 1994. Underwood pleaded not guilty, and on May 22, 1995, he proceeded to trial. Underwood eventually claimed that Virginia Harris had offered him money in exchange for him to kill her. On the charge of capital murder, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on May 24. The following day, Underwood was sentenced to death. Underwood later filed for post-conviction relief which was denied.
