Negro Is Again Refused Entry

Clyde Kennard, a Negro farmer from the Eatonville community near Hattiesburg, was for the second time refused admission to Mississippi Southern College when he applied registration day to Aubrey K. Lucas, director of admissions.

Dr. John Allen, dean of the school of arts and sciences said Kennard’s Sept. 15 application was refused for incomplete records and failure to meet admission requirements.

Unknown to campus officials, Kennard was arrested on the campus, Kennard was arrested on the campus by two Eatonville constables and charged with illegal possession of liquor and reckless driving.

Kennard’s lawyer from Jackson, who has at one time represented the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said he is not representing Kennard in a case again MSC but in the defense case on illegal possession and reckless driving.

Allen emphasized that Kennard dad not create any trouble and left the school quietlyy. [sic]
